Great Event Everyone!
Team Mike Miller Wins
The Inaugural Thunder Cup Scramble
The Big Green was very happy with Paint Cincinnati Green. We had 56 golfers and 120 for the Montgomery Inn catered dinner. The Club wants to thank everyone for coming out and supporting our Big Green Scholarship Foundation. The Club presented a check in the amount of $5,000.00 to the Big Green in support of our student athletes.
Coach Snyder challenged us to double the size of the event next year. We need as many of you as possible to join in and help the Club meet Coach Snyder's challenge. If you want to help the Club help Marshall, please contact our Club President Chad Carney at chadcarney50@hotmail.com.
Team Mike Miller, General Freed, Mark Walton and Eddie Russell, of Cincinnati, with the low score of 61, took home the now coveted Thunder Cup. Mike and the guys will be back next year to defend their championship.
Once again thanks everyone for making Paint Cincinnati Green a huge success!
Final ATP
Tennis Event Details
Hello
Everyone,
Some
details regarding our outing tomorrow evening (Wednesday) at the Western
& Southern Financial Group Masters Tennis Tournament:
First
of all, we will have 45 in our Marshall group and which includes 6
guests from Marshall University who are Lance West, his wife Mary
and their two sons who are tennis players and very much looking forward
to seeing the top male players in the world. Also from Marshall will be
the new President of the Marshall Foundation, Ron Area, along with his
wife Beth. We are looking forward to meeting Ron and Beth and welcoming
them to the Cincinnati area.
Entrance
and Parking: Most of you will exit from I-71 at exit #25 and follow the
signs to the Tennis Center. Look for the general parking which is ample
and then walk to the main entrance of the Tennis Center.
Tickets:
All tickets are to be picked up by everyone at the Main Entrance Will
Call Table located at the left of the Main entrance. This is an Alumni
Event with several Colleges and Universities participating and look for
the Marshall representative (s) at the long Will Call Table. We will
place your ticket request in an envelope with your name on it and you
will be asked for identification such as your drivers license.
Grandstand
Tent: Once you get your tickets (match tickets and reception tickets)
enter through the Main Gate Entrance and turn right and proceed to the
Grandstand Tent which is located at the far end from where you entered,
adjacent to and a little bit behind the Grandstand Court. Your Reception
ticket will get you into the Grandstand tent.
Time:
The Reception starts at 5:30 p.m. and goes to 7:30 p.m. and the
first tennis match will start at 7:30 p.m. The Reception includes hearty
hors d'oeuvres, 2 drink tickets (beer, wine and soft drinks). Music will
be provided and there will be visits from the ATP players periodically.
Extra
Tid-bits: We will have our section of the tent and other Alumni groups
will also have their section. We can have banners and other types of
school items in our section and we will be responsible for removing
those items at the end of the evening. I will have cans of marked
"Thundering Herd" tennis balls available at a donation charge
of $20. for a keepsake and remembrance of this Event as well as to cover
some costs to our local Alumni Chapter. We can come and go in and
out of the Tent as the evening progresses. The second tennis match will
start about 20 minutes after the first one ends and that is a good time
to return to the tent.
Feel
free to wear your green and white, but it is suggested that collared
shirts be worn rather than t-shirts as this is an evening match and the
crowd tends to be "dressy casual" during the evening as
opposed to daytime.
Looking
forward to another good Alumni Chapter activity.

Our Cincy/NKY Club will host our own "Tailgate" event in the West Lot of "The Joan" at this years Green-White Football Game. All Cincy/NKY area friends of Marshall University are invited to attend. Look for
the Red's or Bengal's flag flying over our tailgate spot. "Tailgate" will begin 2 or 3 hours prior to game time. More details will be available soon.
In the past, we have spent a lot of time organizing game watching events around Cincinnati. We are now encouraging our fans and supporters to travel to Huntington and celebrate our athletic events in person. (The Club will also host our own tailgating spot
in the West Lot this year at all six home football games.)
Purchase your season tickets now and make plans to "tailgate" with your Club this fall in Huntington.
Go Herd!!!

Jim Farley Inducted Into Marshall University Business School Hall Of Fame
Jim Farley with his long-time friend Bob Pruett.
Local alumnus and former
chapter president Jim Farley was recently inducted into the Lewis College of Business Hall of Fame. Jim's many accomplishments as a health care administrator, tennis enthusiast and promoter, volunteer, family man and Marshall supporter were recognized and lauded. The induction ceremony was held on November 13th at the Radisson Hotel
in Huntington. Several local alumni made the trip to Huntington to share in Jim's special day.
We want to thank
everyone for coming out on December 6th and sharing in this
experience. Our local "Marshall Family" is
growing and we're becoming more organized.
Like Sam Stanley said last night, getting involved with
the local Club is one of the most important
things we can do to help Marshall University.
In January
or February, the Club is going to have a general
membership meeting and party. This meeting/party is
going to be the next major step in organizing our
Club. Everyone is invited and we hope are able to
attend. We will be deciding on a date real
soon. Stay tuned for more info.
Our
Volleyball Team is raising funds to renovate it's locker
room. The current locker room is a disgrace. Marshall
is NOT
participating in this renovation. They are our only
Conference USA Champions so far. The cost of the
renovation is $50,000.00. Please send a check, in
any amount, made payable to:

We had a nice turnout for the tailgate and volleyball match. Around 30 were at the tailgate and 100 for the volleyball match. Although our team was missing its top two players, they put on a fine effort. Xavier's defense played very well. Coach Jacobs said we'd be ready for
the Conference. Check out some pictures from the tailgate and match.
The Local Alumni Club held a very successful reception for Marshall President Stephen J. Kopp on July 22nd at Kenwood Country Club. Approximately 125 alumni were treated to an informative
"talk" by President Kopp. Everyone was impressed with the new President.
The Club would like to thank Jim and Bobbie Farley for their efforts in planning this event.
New Marshall Alumni Owned Family Sports Pub in NKY
Beef O'Brady's, located at Union, KY, is owned by Marshall Fans Charles & Brenda Harvey and Dave & Sonja Nelson. Muclubcincy.com highly recommends this establishment. Great Food! (Dave will also have Marshall Football Games on if they are available.)
Stop by Beef O'Brady's and support a member of our local "Marshall Family".

"Marshall
Friendly" Game Watching Venues
The Club
has decided to not designate one "venue" as the
official game watching site. With gas prices up and DUI
laws as they are, we've decided to recommend "Marshall
Friendly" establishments. The following are
"Marshall Friendly" establishments:
The Porch
Tickets
Beef
O'Brady's
We may
rotate a "weekly official site" for those that
want to get together as a group.
We
recommend that you call the establishment of your choice in
advance to determine if the game is available.
(I'll get
info. and directions about these sites up in the near future.)
Go Herd!!!
Good Turn Out At The Porch
We had a good turn out at The Porch for the WVU game. I believe WVU has a very good team. We made several new friends and it was good seeing some old friends.
I don't believe the Hofstra game will be available in the Cincinnati area. We will probably get together to watch the Kansas State Game. Keep checking back for updates.

PCG was a big success. The Club would like to thank everyone for
their help and support. It was great seeing and talking with
Coach Snyder, the Athletic Dept., Big Green and Alumni Assoc. folk,
and all the local Marshall University supporters. Lets all
give Chad the support he needs to keep the Marshall snowball rolling
forward here in the Cincy/NKY area. Go Herd!!!

Kent
State Football Game
Saturday,
October 5th
Our
Northern Ohio Son's (& Daughters) of Marshall, have invited us to
their tailgate party at the Kent State game. Game time is 2 p.m.. Contact John Flavin for
detail.
They are planning on having one of their tailgate
parties. They will have a tent set up where they will be serving
hotdogs, chips, soft drinks and cookies or cake. They don't have a
set price, they just ask for donations from those who eat. They
will also have a 50/50 raffle and a raffle for other prizes. "
We are hoping for a big turnout. We have
asked the MUAA for assistance in getting the cheerleaders to stop by
and generate some interest." The drive up is only about 4 hours
for a 2 PM game. Get there early for a great time and support the
HERD. Plenty of hotels in the area

"Scott Cowen may be a stranger in these
parts," wrote Dick Harmon of the Desert Morning News in Utah.
"But when it comes to the future of college football, you can color
him the Robin Hood of a very thick Sherwood Forest on the outskirts of the
greedy hog farm known as the Bowl Championship Series."
Quote from YAKS:
Coach, said that we need to call and E-mail Our Sen. and Congressman. He
said we need to have them put pressure on wvu, for Big East membership. He
said, Hardesty is the head of the Big East pres. and can make or brake our
membership. He said that this was very important. The Charleston QB Club
pres. is going to e-mail all members on this matter with e-mail adresses.
Maybe someone else who was there can add more. We need to step up and help
coach out. GO HERD...

if anyone has a noika cell phone & would like to get
a new ringtone, I was able to
download "We are the Sons of Marshall" fight song. It cost $5.00
and you need to go to
this web site: www.schoolfightsongs.com
It is pretty neat and definitely
different. You don't hear it around here too much. Just wanted to let you
know and you
could pass this info on to the rest of the alumni group. Thanks !!!!
We recently received this from
a Yeager Scholar. Don't know the fellow but he must be pretty
bright.
Hello Mr Meek,
My name is Michael Beck, and I graduated from Marshall on May 10th.
I
am currently living in Kettering, south of Dayton. I was wondering
if
you knew of any area alums who may be interested in hiring a freshly
minted history/classical studies BA. I graduated summa cum laude and
as a Yeager Scholar. I'll do just about anything and work just about
anywhere. If you know of anyone who is hiring, great. If not,
I'd
still like to be put on the mailing list for the local alumni chapter.
Thanks!

We Had the Raffle Drawing at the GMAC
Bowl Half-time.
Ron Gardner was the winner of the autographed
Leftwich Photo. He was present at the drawing and his wife took the
picture home. We Raised $630.00 for Marshall's Campaign for National
Prominence. Thanks everyone for participating.
Go Herd!!!
We must continue our assault
on "Castle Morgantown" until they agree to a fair football
series!!!
Support the Athletic
Department's Campaign for a Fair, Permanent Football Series With WVU
"For Marshall to
sustain our nationally prominent Football Program, we must become financially
secure. The only way to obtain this financial security is for us
to enter into a fair, permanent football series with the
West Virginia Mountaineers. The Athletic Department is trying to
make this series a reality.
I now believe that the
reason Dr. Angel has backed off this issue, is that the WV Legislature is
proposing to cut Marshall's budget by 13%,
and he doesn't want to add fuel to the fire.
